elbow

Elbow pain is a very common condition that people experience generally from overuse. Pain in the elbow can arise from the joint itself, muscles that control movement at the elbow, shoulder and/or wrist, nerves that are present around the area, as well as other soft tissue structures such as tendons and ligaments.

Common conditions:

  • Tennis/golfers elbow

  • Olecranon bursitis

  • Nerve impingement/irritation

  • Ligamentous sprains.

How physiotherapy helps:

  • Strengthening and stretching exercise programs

  • Manual therapy to relieve joint stiffness and muscle tightness including massage, dry needling and joint manipulations

  • Bracing to provide external support to the elbow

Things to get started:

  • Heat/cold packs over the affected area for 20 minutes at a time

  • Slow and gentle movement of the elbow in pain-free ranges

  • Gentle massage of painful/tight areas
