PHysiotherapy
What is physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession that focuses on reducing pain whilst also improving function and mobility. Here at MyCare Physiotherapy we focus on a combination of techniques and treatments including manual therapy, dry needling, acupuncture, exercise rehabilitation and patient education to treat a wide range of conditions. On top of general physiotherapy, we are your experts for complex musculoskeletal disorders and chronic pain. We particularly specialise in dry needling as a part of a multimodal treatment in order to treat each patient with the best outcome. Pain management is our main area of expertise. Each patient will have a specific treatment plan outlined in the initial session. Multiple sessions may be required depending on the stage and type of injury.
What can physiotherapy help with?
All your musculoskeletal aches and pains including arthritis, neck pain, lower back pain, sciatica, cervicogenic headache, shoulder impingement, plantar fasciitis, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, sporting injuries, patella tracking problems, runner’s knee, bulging disc, facial palsy, jaw ( TMJ) pain, trigger point release, ankle sprain, muscle strain, fibromyalgia, dry needling therapy, runner’s knee, foot pain & back pain, chest treatment/airway clearance), post surgical rehabilitation (total knee replacement, total hip replacement, ACL repair, shoulder decompression, shoulder reconstruction and etc), post stroke rehabilitation, neurological conditions, complex conditions and home visits. What will my physiotherapy appointment include?
Your initial consultation with one of our physiotherapists will include a subjective and objective examination to get a comprehensive understanding of your condition with a clear diagnosis. In the initial interview an array of questions may be asked including your medical history, mechanism of injury and work status. After these details are given to your therapist, specific testing will be completed to assess your injury to confirm or rule out certain hypothesis. Once this is confirmed, your physiotherapist will exercise a treatment plan. Treatment is provided at MyCare Physiotherapy in your initial consultation. This may not be possible for extremely complex cases with extensive history. This is rarely the case as our therapists are all trained to manage time to fit the appropriate treatment in accordingly.
How should I prepare for my appointment?
We ask that you wear appropriate clothing that is accessible and comfortable. The site of injury may have to be exposed so please keep this in mind. If you have any prior medical imaging (x-ray/MRI/CT scans) done, please bring these with you. If you have been referred by another practitioner and have a referral letter, please give this to your physiotherapist. If you have multiple questions it is usually a good idea to write these down before your appointment.
What specific treatments do you do?
At MyCare Physiotherapy we offer physiotherapy treatment that is evidence based through the most up to date and reputable sources. These include
Manual therapy (soft tissue massage, trigger point therapy, joint mobilisation, nerve gliding)
Dry needling/acupuncture
Exercise rehabilitation
Advice + education (movement, posture, ergonomics etc.)
Electrotherapy (ultrasound, electrical stimulation, magnet therapy)
How many treatments will I need?
This is dependent on your assessment findings and treatment plan. Each musculoskeletal condition has a guide in terms of number of treatments, time taken to recover and treatment frequency. It is usually dependent on the stage of injury on how often you will require treatment. Generally in the early acute stages more frequent treatment is recommended and this will become less as your function improves.
Does MyCare accept physiotherapy treatments through claims?
The short answer is yes!
Work cover and work place injuries – If case is approved, we will process the claim payment for you. Otherwise, if still waiting for approval and for some other work injury insurance claims, full payment upfront and we will provide a tax receipt for you to submit for claiming.
If you are suffering from whiplash and undergoing a CTP (Compulsory third party) insurance claim; after the initial assessment, your treating practitioner will submit a treatment plan to the insurer. This treatment plan will outline your areas of injury, prognosis, diagnosis & treatment approach. We will then deal directly with the insurer in regards to payments. Due to the nature of whiplash ongoing therapy may be required. Self management is key with rehabilitation and is always emphasised with post accident management.
